The Nature Plays was the first of Patrick Gabridge’s series of one-act plays performed on site at Mount Auburn Cemetery, where he is the artist-in-residence for 2018-2019. This site-specific, set of 5 plays highlights stories inspired by the rich natural environment of Mount Auburn, from spotted salamanders in Consecration Dell, birders at Auburn Lake, and historic debates between naturalists who are buried at the Cemetery. Audiences experienced the performance at various spots across the grounds, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the natural world. Plays in Place developed the plays through readings and workshops held in September/October 2018. Courtney O’Connor directed the plays.
The Nature Plays ran for 12 nearly SOLD OUT performances, each followed by discussions with playwright Patrick Gabridge, and garnered attention from WBUR Radio and BroadwayWorld Boston.
